Stars keen to extend winning run in league

MORNING Stars will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the ABC Motsepe League when they play Matta Milan in a relegation tussle at the Dutywa Stadium on Saturday (kickoff 3pm).

Milan are only one point ahead of the Kwazakhele side, who have gone two games unbeaten having recorded a 2-2 draw against Buffalo, followed by their recent 2-1 win over Young Ideas.

The win moved Stars to 14th place on the log but they are not yet out of danger, as they are level on points with Mdantsane Mighty Bucks but above them on goal difference.

Stars assistant coach Luzuko Hambaze is confident his side will easily be able to avoid the big chop.

“The players are fresh after last weekend’s win. We plan to take things a game at a time,” Hambaze said.

“We are looking to get full points against Matta Milan. We know how important that match is to us.”

However, the coach said they did not want to put any pressure on the players, so they were taking each game as it comes.

On the other hand, Lion City are slowly but surely making their way to the top.

The Motherwell side are only four points from reaching their target.

A win against Callies tomorrow could take them one step closer to achieving their dreams, depending on other league results.

Their game against Callies will not be a walk in the park though. Callies will also be out to close the gap between them and the teams above.

Both teams will go into the game with confidence after last weekend’s victories, which saw Bay side Callies thrash City Lads 4-1 and City beat Subs 3-0.

The match between Future Tigers and EC Bees has been postponed.
