Hockey training camp proves a hit

-

A NUMBER of players of different age groups took part in three days of intensive hockey training on the Webster Astro at St Andrew’s College in Grahamstown at the weekend.

The players were able to enjoy the skilled coaching of national and Eastern Province player Chad Cairncross.

Also at hand was Eastern Province star Michael Abrahams.

Both of these young players were able to get the players to perform at high standards throughout the weekend, despite fatigue and heat.

The inspirational and competitive activities challenged the players to try to perform at their best at all times.

Last year’s first team players Tao Varty, Luke Hobson, Murray Breetzke, Zuko Yaka, Simon Harvey, Peter Jarvis, Richard Brown and Josh Marx set a fine example for the younger players to aspire to.

The high standard of hockey delivered by these and younger players was a pleasure to witness in the off-season.

Younger players David Redfern and Jurie Norval found the physical nature of the camp tough, but did not shirk from the challenge.

Other senior players who showed their potential under pressure included Dale Jevon, Daniel Erasmus, Jurgens Swart, Brad Landrey and Matthew MacKenzie while a number of juniors including Cameron Chadwick, Peter Voges, Tom Russell, Dale Brody and James Mullins showed excellent promise.

The positive attitude shown by the players made the camp extremely valuable and worthwhile for the coaching staff.
