Pearson too good for Nico Malan

PEARSON High School enjoyed a superb day on the cricket field as they took on Nico Malan in their annual fixture on Saturday.

The Pearson batsmen were in sublime form with five centuries scored.

In the U14A match, Robert Barnes scored 100 not out while Bradley Renkin scored 128 not out for the Pearson U15A team and Rodwill Baatjies’s 143 from only 80 balls was scored for the second team.

In the first team match, Pearson batted first and posted a massive 378/7 in their 50-over encounter.

Nico Malan had the visiting Pearson team in trouble as three wickets fell in the first 12 overs.

Captain Keeran Forbes and Raeez Harrison then took complete control as the pair put on a massive 212-run partnershi­p for the fourth wicket. Forbes scored 132 off 147 balls. His knock included 15 fours and five sixes while Harrison scored a quick 108 off 77 balls. Harrison hit 12 fours and six sixes in his innings.

After lunch Nico Malan came out fighting, putting on 70 runs, with Wian Kruger playing a good knock of 53.

Benjamin Steyn was the pick of the Nico Malan batters and scored a mature 54 runs off 48 balls.

The Pearson outfit proved to be too good for Nico Malan as they wrapped up the innings with the total on 188, giving the Pearson team a 190-run victory.

Harrison, with figures of 3/25 in six overs, was the pick of the Pearson bowlers while Alex Draai returned figures of 2/26 in eight overs.
