Shooting at farm leaves ex-Bok traumatised
FORMER Springbok rugby player Johan Goosen was involved in a shooting incident at his Lilly Flanders farm in Aliwal North on Tuesday morning.
Goosen’s friend, Armandt Stoman, 24, was shot in the ankle and transported to Bloemfontein for medical treatment.
Provincial police spokeswoman Brigadier Marinda Mills said foul play was not suspected at this stage.
She said while statements still needed to be taken from both men, Goosen was “very traumatised about the incident”.
Mills said investigations into the matter would continue.
A case of negligent discharge of a firearm would be investigated, however this would only become clearer once statements had been taken from the men.
Stoman had to undergo surgery on his ankle.
Goosen, 25, made headlines late last year after retiring from rugby to take up a position as commercial director at an agricultural company.
The skillful flyhalf, who also deputised as fullback at times, made five appearances for the SA U-20 side in 2011.
He made his debut for the Springbok senior team in 2012, making 13 appearances between then and last year.
Goosen also played for French Top 14 side Racing 92 for the 2014-15 season.
Despite signing a contract extension to remain with the side until 2020, he announced his retirement last month. – Amir Chetty
