RESPECT WILL OF THE PEOPLE

“OH, what a tangle!” (January 26): the sore losers who got their fingers burnt in the cookie jar are still showing how immature and childish they are. The will of the people at the ballot box said a DA-led coalition for the metro. When the ANC with its communist cohorts begins to understand the meaning of the word democracy, and respects it, we might be able to move forward. Johann Mettler is the rightfully appointed city manager. The fact that his skin colour and commitment to clean governance don’t suit certain people is not a reason to cause the metro to squander ratepayers’ money on defending his appointment. Grow up Mr Xasa, be a man instead of a spoilt baby brat. You and your cronies lost the metro fair and square, accept it.

REPORT MISSING BABY

“BODY of baby found in rubbish bag” (January 24): please educate the people that if someone has a baby and suddenly there’s no baby, they should report it. Terribly sad.

STRANGE EXPLANATION FROM ANC

THE ANC denies involvement in election advertising skullduggery, yet pays a million to stay out of court to defend the case (“ANC’s R50m war room shambles”, January 25)? It is either dumb, has too much money or is being very economical with the truth. I suspect the being economical with the truth.

PROTEAS LOSE T20 SERIES

AFTER the last T20 loss I asked whether CSA had a plan B? Obviously it does not! Quotas rule! RICHARD, CHARLO, PORT ELIZABETH WE need to thank the African National Circus, our home-grown coach (the moaner) and the selectors for losing the T20 series against Sri Lanka (“Lankans claim historic victory”, January 26). Congratulations Russell Domingo, on what you’ve accomplished in losing the T20 series. Keep on selecting the best!

HENDRI, BLUEWATER BAY, PORT ELIZABETH

WHY don’t the Protea selectors choose teams on merit? Otherwise soon there will be no sponsors and no spectators. Ask the Springboks.

REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

LUYANDA Marlon Kama (“Bullying taken too lightly in SA society”, January 26), as a good-looking pupil, I also had fellow pupils who tried to bully me. None of them were good-looking and I knew it was jealousy. As a teacher, I also realised the bullies were envious of their victims and many times it was because of their victims’ looks. These bullies are not taught by their parents that they are worthy and the rest have to suffer for it.

TEACHER

“LITTLE fuss about assault” (January 26): thank you Derrick Fellows, you hit the nail on the head. This incident should have been on TV as well.

READER

RESIDENT (“Replies to readers’ comments”, January 26), you need to get the picture. Nothing in life is free. Even death comes at a huge price. Stop playing the race card and citing the previous regime. Many white children did not get a degree because universities could not be afforded. Who should they blame? Their ancestors who came before them? Pay and the pain goes away. The operative word is pay!

DAVID G

ET (“Not front page news”, January 25), I found the article delightful, a welcome relief from the doom and gloom that dominates the front pages.

LYNN

TO Curious, who can only wonder why I was driving around at 5am in Central (“Replies to readers’ comments”, January 26), clearly you have a reading disability. My letter (“Drunk patrons: action needed”, January 24) was quite clear in that I went to investigate the source of the noise (which clearly woke me up).

ANDREW

CHER, regarding the northern areas (“Replies to readers’ comments”, January 25), these shebeens are illegal and thus easy for the police to close down. I take it you live in a “white” area and feel the DA must first clean up there. TAXPAYER WHAT is A Myburgh’s problem with the Richmond Hill SRA (“Replies to readers’ comments”, January 26)? It’s run by community-serving residents trying to make a difference. Why doesn’t he get off his high horse and also do something positive?
