Partying Januworry blues away

Soul food at Poetic Soul’s bash

-

HI DARLINGS, it is that time of the week where you sit back, put your feet up and find out what the crazies and blesser searching community get up to this weekend.

So Friday I went to check out the first Food Truck Friday of the year in Baakens Valley.

However, my pockets were empty – it was just embarrassing – so I don’t know why I bothered going!

The event seems to be getting stronger though and it drew a big crowd. PE people love their food and if you keep feeding them good food, you will have a constant flow of supporters.

After my dismal attempt at looking like I was (monied), I went to check out Ikati Esengxoweni’s performance at ArtEC.

The group is trying to raise funds for their showcase at the South African Indies Music Week next month.

The event was well-attended considering the month we are in.

Well-known PE actor Xabiso Zweni did a good job as the MC and shocked people when he took off the hat he was wearing and said it should be passed around to help the band raise funds for the trip.

But is this guy for real? Did people not just pay money to get into the venue to hear these guys perform and now you want the poor children of this city to fork out even more? Haibo, we’re in Januworry, give us a break please.

Artists such as Umle and their manager, Ntsika Tyatya were there, as well as Zimsto Eroofini and the Bay's multi-talented Temba Ncetani.

On Saturday night Skinners went to Poetic Soul’s 35th birthday party at her place in Cape Road – who would have thought she is already 35.

It’s true that most artists take time out and relax in January, though, that is when they chow the money they made in December while we were on holiday.

Poetic Soul’s party was on point, her cake had her photograph on it, there was lots of meat and booze, of course, because we are South Africans and what would a party be without a braai?

Actress Olwethu Mdala took matters into her own hands by preparing the meat and braaiing it. Nowadays, men do not want to get their nails dirty because we are getting his-and-hers manicures these days. But that is none of my business.

Poetic Soul nearly got me sober when she went into her long-poetic speech, thanking everyone who came and who has supported her. She has such a beautiful voice!

Sunday was dedicated to the Lord, thanking him for getting me through to another year. But my experience was nothing like Somizi’s, shem.

Until next week darlings!
