MUST ALL DO OUR BIT TO SAVE WATER

WATER crisis: I was horrified by what my husband said of some of the rich who are still lavishly depleting our water resources, ”They do not care how much they use because they can pay for it”. That’s not the point.

We all need water to survive. Without it the world will come to an end. All of us must stop wasting it. Think. You could be causing the deaths of your very own loved ones.

My husband and I use an average of 4kl per month. I challenge everyone out there to do better. Most of our garden is green, our house clean and the birds are thankful for their share. I wonder how much water our councillors use? R B, FOREST HILL, PORT ELIZABETH

PLEASED CASE WILL CARRY ON

DAWN (The DA Women’s Network) is pleased to read that the “Bay foetus case” (approximately 21 cases of birth concealment) will proceed on May 5 (“Bay foetuses case postponed to May”, January 26). CELESTE BARKER, DA MPL

METRO COALITION SHAKY

THE DA is struggling to keep the coalition together. The DA would have won an outright majority in the metro if Edmund van Vuuren and Athol Trollip had not chased away the good and hard-working councillors who built the party, especially in the northern areas.

Those people took the chunk of votes away that were needed for majority rule. One leader allegedly said it was payback time because they did not support him for a position. LENA

THE DA is dropping the ball too often, that is 1. City manager mess, 2. R340 charge for electricity meter reconnection, 3. IPTS plans are also going to create a mess. ROB

TIRED OF SABC COMMENTATOR

I AM really sick and tired of listening to the over-the-top cricket commentary of the SABC’s Ed Rainsford. He is nerve-wrecking, irritating and boring. He will do fine commentating on horse racing. Give me Kass Naidoo and Natalie Germanos any day. That is class. TRIPLE H

REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

JURIST (“Hate speech issue will destroy society”, January 26), for a better, more intelligent perspective on hate speech, in particular related to “fundamentalist Christians and the slippery money-making pastors who stir up their prejudices and passions”, go online and read “Great speech vs hate speech: how it really works” posted by Prof Pierre de Vos. SCREWTAPE

GUYS, let’s have D R Galloway’s comments in print please. If The Herald editor doesn’t publish those ridiculous comments, we will sink into depression as news can be really bad sometimes. We need something to laugh about. D R offers it free. TS

TO Richard and company who complain about the Proteas’ T20 loss (“Proteas lose T20 series”, January 27), if they win, I don’t hear you cheering on the so-called quota players and the coach, but beware if they lose. I can bet you if they won, you would’ve said it was because AB de Villiers was back. Get a life or go to England. JONATHAN SWARTZ, SA SUPPORTER

RICHMOND Hill: it would seem as if there was a love-hate relationship in progress. What intrigues me is why this small suburb draws so much attention. BRUCE WIGG

DEAR Taxpayer (“Replies to readers’ comments” , January 27), whether I live in a “white” area or not has zilch to do with the fact that the DA has so much on its plate to contend with. If the police are not closing down the illegal shebeens, then shouldn’t the residents approach the police and demand they take action? And by the way, my “white” area has plenty of problems too: drug dealers, prostitutes, crime (the list goes on). CHER, PORT ELIZABETH

APARTHEID NOT TO BLAME

THE only change I notice in the metro, that makes me glad, is that the most powerful word, apartheid, is not to blame for the past 21 years that the metro was run by the ANC.

CONFESS TO SIN BEFORE PRAYING

IF our hearts and thoughts are riddled with sin, no amount of praying will God answer.
