GOALS from Sizwe Mdlinzo, Owen Naidoo and Xolani Mahola saw Chippa United’s reserve side record their second consecutive win in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, beating Free State Stars 3-1 at the Wolfson Stadium at the weekend.

The win follows the Chilli Boys’ 2-1 victory over Cape Town City away.

Chippa are now ninth on the log with 18 points from 12 games.

They are level on points with eighth-placed Free State Stars but behind them with an inferior goal difference.

Coach Glen Minnie said he was happy with his side’s win, but more importantly that they were able to score three goals. “We were leading 2-1 at half time. “The boys really came to the party in terms of team work for us to grind results,” he said. “It was not an easy game. “Free State Stars are a very physical team, but we competed with them every step of the way.

“We had set a goal for ourselves to win our second game in a row – it is the first time we have done it this season.

“Going into the game, we did a lot of hard work and mental training to be able to compete at the highest level, and that paid off.

“The other good thing for us is scoring three goals in one game, making it five goals in two matches, whereas we before had a problem in front of goal.

Chippa’s next league fixture is against 12th-placed Ajax Cape Town, at the Ikamva Stadium on Saturday.

Minnie said the team would be out to extend their winning tally to three in a row.
