Chance to see top SA women squash players

-

EASTERN Province enthusiasts will have a chance to see two of South Africa’s finest women players in action when Jesters and EP Squash host an exhibition at Old Grey tomorrow, starting at 2pm.

SA No 1 Siyoli Waters and Alex Fuller will be in attendance to pass on the knowledge gained during their careers, giving local players a chance to play with them during the course of the afternoon.

There will be an hour session to challenge the pros from 2pm to 3pm, followed by some exhibition games when the pair take on Old Grey first league players Bona Nomkala and Jacques Wessels in a one-game showdown.

This will be followed by the SA players showing off their skills in a match against each other.

The cost will be R100 per person, which will entitle you to a burger and a beer/cooldrink, while also giving you the chance to spend some time on the court with Waters or Fuller in a doubles match or a singles game.

Children under 14 will be allowed in free and all funds raised will go to the EP development programme.

SOUTH Africa’s national champion, Steve Coppinger, now based in Orlando (US), has moved back into the top 20 of the world men’s rankings.

Having reached the semifinals of last week’s Motor City Open in Detroit, Coppinger, who was ranked 21 last month, has moved up two places to 19. Since April 2013 Coppinger has been ranked between 13 and 24.

Four South African women still sit in the top 100, with Waters at 55, Milnay Louw at 78, Cheyna Tucker at 83 and Alex Fuller at 90.

The Landman twins, Elani and Lume, who learnt their squash in the Eastern Province but are now also based in the US, have moved to 111 and 124 respectively.
