Gelvandale have sights on title

- Alvin Reeves reevesa@timesmedia.co.za

GELVANDALE resume their pursuit of the NMB Premier League cricket title when they host Schauderville on Sunday.

The log leaders have four matches remaining, including Sunday’s game, and know that if they collect maximum points from each game there is nobody that can catch them.

Gelvandale winning the title would be a historic occasion, but the team are not getting ahead of themselves and will attempt to cross each hurdle as it presents itself.

There is bound to be an intriguing clash at the Dan Qeqe Stadium tomorrow when townships rivals and title contenders Jendamark United take on United Brothers. This game always carries some needle as neither team is willing to give an inch.

Another game that will attract some attention is that between hosts SA Home Loans Union and Seaman’s Renault Old Grey.

Union still have a mathematical chance of pushing for title honours, but have a tough run-in to the end of the season.

The fixtures are (homes teams first, 10am start): Tomorrow: PECC v SuperSpar Despatch, Union v Old Grey, United v United Brothers Sunday: Motherwell v Uitenhage, Gelvandale v Schauderville, Mecer Madibaz 2 v EMediaIT Heatherbank ý THE latest standings, subject to ratification by the log-keeper, are (five matches unless stated): 1 Gelvandale 52 (9), 2 United 37 (7), 3 PECC 30 (8), 4 Union 28 (6), 5 Despatch 27 (8), 6 Old Grey 25 (9), 7 United Brothers 25 (9), 8 Madibaz 1 20 (5), 9 Schauderville 16 (9), 10 Uitenhage 16 (8), 11 Motherwell 12 (7), 12 Heatherbank 7 (7), 13 Madibaz 2 5 (3), 14 Northville 0 (6)
