MEC FIRM ON FRAIL CARE CENTRES

MY question to the EC social development MEC is: “Would you make use of a state hospital?” I think not! Just goes to show how out of touch this lot are when it comes to what is happening at grassroots level (“‘I’m not going to pay for ill people’ ”!, February 2). Roll on 2019 when hopefully they will get their walking tickets!

JAX

THE Eastern Cape MEC should be fired. The ANC had enough money to pay for overinflated tenders for Nkandla, but can’t afford oxygen for frail care.

Kunjalo (of course)!

READER WILL somebody inform EC social development MEC Nancy Sihlwayi she is not paying for ill people. It is grants from taxpayers’ money allocated to her department that funds them.

GERT SLABBERT

SOME 94 ill patients allowed to die by the ANC. This is worse than Marikana. These ANC politicians do not care about the sick and elderly. Voters must think about this at the next elections.

UITENHAGE HOME AFFAIRS TOPS

I EMPATHISE with Prof Jonathan Jansen in his experience at Home Affairs in Wynberg (“Torture that’s Home Affairs”, February 2). His experience is the exact opposite of mine at the Constitution Road, Uitenhage, branch. I visit these offices frequently. Sometimes there are bottlenecks and long waiting periods. However the staff are courteous even when abused and harassed by a public that is often rude. What I have noticed is the manager, a Ms Sigabi, manages by walking about and not confining herself to her office. SMSes are billed at R1 per 160 characters, the maximum number of characters that can be accepted. Free SMSes do not apply and errors will be billed. Most of the staff are trilingual and upbeat about their work. To Home Affairs, Uitenhage, keep it up.

COUNCIL WRANGLING

IT seems to me that Mongameli Bobani has a problem with competent municipal managers as this is not the first one he has had an issue with. Methinks he is an undercover ANC agent!

IRRITATED RATEPAYER I REALLY feel sorry for the poor ANC in this metro. Not only did it blunder in reading opposition parties’ intentions over the ousting of Athol Trollip in a metro vote, it landed up shooting itself in the foot and looking foolish. On top of that, it has been found to have lied about its involvement! Who would want to vote for such comedians?

CONDONING ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS

TO Athol Trollip and Annette Lovemore. You are biting the hand that feeds you. You are targeting people who have municipal accounts. You cut electricity when they default and then make them pay a reconnection fee. By default you are condoning illegal connections by not disconnecting them and prosecuting offenders. You are in fact encouraging illegal connections.
