Former EP cricket body plans reunion

-

IT will be a nostalgic time for the many former EP Cricket Association (EPCA) players when they gather for a reunion at South End Boulevard Cafe on Friday March 10.

The planned reunion under the auspices of the previous SA Cricket Board will bring together players who obtained colours under the non-racial body.

The reunion is being arranged by the PE Sport Legends Trust (PESLT).

“The code of cricket has progressed wonderfully since the national bodies were unified in 1991 to form the United Cricket Board, which is now Cricket South Africa,” PESLT trustee Graeme Sauls said.

“However, the EPCA has a wonderful history of cricket played during a vibrant time and the reunion will attempt to rekindle relationships built on sporting locations like the Adcock fields, the Mooredyke, Gelvan grounds, etc.”

“Cricketers like the legendary Basil D’Oliveira, CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat, former greats like Maurice Wilson, Armpie Francis, Stephen Draai, Dev Govindjee and so many others played under the banner of the EPCA.”

More recently, players like Proteas spinner Shafiek Abrahams and current Springbok coach Allister Coetzee also made their mark.

“There is a wonderful history to the EPCA and it is imperative that this is never lost or forgotten, nor must those friendships built up over many years simply be allowed to be a distant memory,” Sauls said.

“We are very excited at the prospect of reuniting all former EP A and B players and management. We would like all former players and managers to join us for what promises to be a truly nostalgic experience.”
