‘Dollar’ looks the ultimate bet

- Herald Racing Editor

ULTIMATE Dollar looks to be the proverbial “racing certainty” in the main event at Fairview tomorrow.

The Justin Snaith-trained son of Jet Master is the overwhelming favourite to win Race 3 over 2 000m with Gavin Lerena in the saddle.

Ultimate Dollar is a fourtime winner from 20 outings and is set to make a winning debut in Port Elizabeth. In his last run on 18 January he finished fourth, just 1,30 lengths behind Friendly Tibbs with Craig Bantam up.

Lerena jumps from gate No 3 and Ultimate Dollar looks set for a fifth victory.

However, victory won’t come easy as Alghadeer and Welsh Emperor both look ready for big runs. Alghad- eer was well backed to win his latest start but found Matador In Red just too good on the day, losing by 1,25 lengths.

Louis Mxothwa takes over the ride from Sandile Khathi and will jump from pole position. Alghadeer has won five of his 19 starts and trainer Grant Paddock will be hoping for another victory.

Welsh Emperor, from the in-form Alan Greeff yard, ran on strongly in his latest and flew up late in the race to finish a close second behind Mister Matchett over 1 600m.

Welsh Emperor is one of Port Elizabeth’s promising youngsters and must be respected. Aldo Domeyer takes the ride in the absence of Greg Cheyne.

Road To Indy, Notting Hill and Scent also have the form to upset, but it will come as a big surprise if Ultimate Dollar gets beaten as Lerena is a masterful rider.

Lerena is also a possible banker in the first leg of the Pick 6 when he rides My Word My Bond for the Snaith yard. My Word My Bond, who is owned by Messrs N Johnnson & WJC Mitchell, should record his first career win from seven outings.

It is not every day tthe PE Pick 6 offers a banker in the first leg, but Lerena can leave punters with a broad smile. Those who are hesitant can add Count Red and Vida Fella to their perms.

The first race is off at 1235 with a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1 600m. Gavin Smith and JP van der Merwe can get punters off to a winning start with Earthflight.
