Stylish new model encourages drivers to play hard and experience all its XP action
RENAULT is setting new benchmarks in the availability of affordable, entry-level vehicles, and closely following the Kwid, it has launched a new model. The Kwid is selling like hotcakes and word is that the allocation to South Africa has just about reached its limit.
Just in time, but more expensive, comes the Kadjar XP Limited Edition.
In April last year, Renault South Africa launched three Kadjar models, all powered by new-generation forced induction turbo engines: the diesel-powered Dynamique 96kW 1.6 dCi 4x4, the petrol-powered Dynamique 96kW and the Expression 96kW variants.
In July, the Kadjar Dynamique 4x2 range featuring EDC transmissions and the Renault’s 1.5 dCi 81kW Turbo diesel engine followed.
The Renault Kadjar XP Limited Edition 96kW 1.2 Turbo petrol, with six-speed manual transmission, is based on the Kadjar Expression derivative. However, it has been taken to the next level.
Just as Experience Points or XP is a unit of measurement used by gamers progressing through a game, the Kadjar XP Limited Edition encourages drivers to get out there and experience all the XP action and adventure life has to offer, says Renault.
With the Kadjar XP Limited Edition comes an accessory pack comprising 17-inch alloys, cornering fog lights, a swan neck tow bar kit, side steps and roof racks.
Valued at R40 000, these are in addition to Kadjar Expression’s standard trim.
We particularly liked the Formula One-inspired engine.
The XP is powered by Renault’s 96kW 1.2 turbo petrol engine with maximum power output of 96kW at 5 500rpm.
Peak engine torque of 205Nm is achieved at 2 000rpm, a figure comparing favourably with much higher capacity normally aspirated engines. A new generation low-inertia turbo engine, it is lively and offers efficient and advanced technologies.
We liked the Kadjar’s cabin, which is generous and Renault’s attention to detail is immediately apparent.
Its high-quality, ergonomic interior focuses on comfort and driving pleasure and accentuates the model’s crossover character.
The height-adjustable driver’s seat combined with height and depth-adjustable electric powerassisted steering affords optimum visibility, while further enhancing the vehicle’s SUV feel.
From the elegant double topstitching to the dashboard with its chrome finishes, the onboard environment is stylishly refined.
The vehicle offers a generous 370 litres of boot space.
In addition, its modular cabin boasts an additional 30 litres of versatile storage space apportioned between the doors, glove box and central armrest as well as storage pockets behind the front seats. The Kadjar XP Limited Edition comes standard with a five-year/ 150 000km mechanical warranty and a six-year anti-corrosion warranty.
Also standard is a five-year/ 90 000km service plan.
The Kadjar XP Limited Edition 96kW 1.2 Turbo petrol goes for R364 900 (including VAT)
