CALLIES recorded their third consecutive defeat in the ABC Motsepe League over the weekend when they went down 2-1 to Matatiele Professionals at the Thandanani Stadium on Saturday.

Prior to the loss, the Bay side went down 2-0 to Swartkops Valley United Brothers.

That was followed by a loss to Mdantsane Mighty Bucks by the same margin.

The loss is the team’s seventh defeat this season.

The last time the Callies side tasted victory was when they thrashed East London side Tornado 4-1 last month.

Despite the setback, Callies remain sixth on the log with 30 points from 19 games.

The teams below them are starting to catch up , only eight points separates Callies and ninth placed Highbury.

To avoid dropping further down the log, the Bay side need to pull up their socks.

A win against Walter Sisulu University in their next fixture is necessary to keep the gap between them and the bottom teams.

Meanwhile, top Motherwell side Lion City are now third on the log after their 2-1 win against Morning Stars in a Bay derby at the weekend.

City are on 36 points from 19 matches. They lost some valuable points in their two previous fixtures, losing 2-0 to WSU and playing to a goalless draw against log-leaders EC Bees.

To keep up with the team above they need to win their next fixture against Highbury .

Things are not looking good for Stars. Their latest loss has placed them deeper into the relegation zone.

The Kwazakhele side are rock bottom on the log with 11 points from 18 games.

Another Bay side that is relegation-threatened this season is Young Ideas. They played to a 1-1 draw against Mighty Bucks.

Despite the point, they are still second from the bottom, with 13 points from 19 games.
