Quality field to line up for Grade 2 Hawaii Stakes

THE R400,000 Hawaii Stakes over 1 400m at Turffontein on Saturday might only comprise nine runners but is a quality field.

Saturday sees the running of the R1-million Betting World Gauteng Guineas (Grade 2) and the R500,000 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas (Grade 2) which are also the first leg of the SA Triple Crown and Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara respectively.

Talktothestars is the highest rated runner in this Grade 2 race but the bestweighted pair are Kangaroo Jack and French Navy.

However, the horse to beat could well be New Predator from the Johan Janse van Vuuren yard.

He loves this course and has won both his races over the distance, which includes the Grade 2 Drill Hall Stakes at Greyville.

The other Graded races on the Guineas Day card is the R250,000 Acacia Handicap for fillies and mares over 1 600m.

A full field of 15 runners is carded to go to post for this Grade 3 race and it looks extremely competitive.

Topping the weights is Ormond Ferraris-trained Flying Ice with Gavin Lerena up.
