Sad to see Cheeky go

-

IT is so sad to see Cheeky Watson relinquishing his presidency at the EP Ruby Union after he had done so much for this province.

Too many people said he had failed EP Rugby, but to me it’s the system that failed him and he had no support system to help him.

Even the environment was not conducive enough for him to operate normally.

People who had been following rugby before unification would agree with me that the role that he played with his family in the struggle in this province is immeasurable.

He is a white man with a black soul or should I rather say he is a black man trapped in a white man’s body.

He is leaving a very good trail behind, which other white folks could use as inspiration.

He had no other option but to resign after his so-called comrades turned their backs on him and became his foes.

I might not know the reasons behind his resignation, but I can smell a rat.

I remember him saying, “When people of this province fight you, they don’t give up fighting you and they will fight you till the end”.

I just hope the next president who will succeed will take EP Rugby forward and not drag it two steps backward.

To comrade Cheeky, job well done sir, you tried your utmost best to improve rugby in this province and it’s time to hand over the baton.

I am wishing you all the best in your future endeavours, and may God bless you and your family.
