STOP SALE OF WATER AND SAVE IT

SOMETHING that has come to my mind with regard to our water shortages and how we could save some water: water from boreholes is not for sale, I understand, as this belongs to the state. How come we have so many water outlets selling water subsequently with reverse osmosis or something to this effect? Where do they get their water from? Same applies to companies supplying ice to shops. I am certain their machines are coupled to the metro water supply lines. Stop these companies and we might save more water. Just a thought. PETER, KABEGA PARK, PORT ELIZABETH

ALL GOODS SEEM TO BE MADE IN CHINA

IS there nothing from shoes to clothes and electrical goods that one can buy in this country that is not made in China? Shoes fall apart in two months. What is going on? DISGUSTED SHOPPER

HOW MANY REVAMPS BEFORE REOPENING?

CAN someone please explain how many more revamps the King Edward Hotel needs before it can open its doors? The latest one is to “restore it to its former glory”, whatever that means (“New lease on life for Central landmark”, March 8). Before it was sold some years back for the first time to Middle East buyers it still had its originality. The Central area was the problem. Many of us were regulars there for many years. MIKE

WOULD HAVE BEEN OFFERED JOB

I’LL bet that if the article about the jobless PhD (An Educated Guess, “Need more than PhD to get job”, March 9) had given contact details then he would have been snapped up in a week. JACK

OLDER PEOPLE ALSO NEED JOBS

PLEASE can someone help? I am trying to help a healthy 48-year-old male find a job. He has experience in logistics and supply chain management, warehousing control, co-ordinating and distribution, and petroleum management (oil and gas). He also has a code 14 driver’s licence with dangerous risk PDP. The older guys with many responsibilities also need jobs, not only our youth. Phone me on 076-203-3214. RESIDENT

JORDAAN MAKES RIGHT CHOICE

I BELIEVE Danny Jordaan made the right choice to withdraw from the Fifa race (“Danny pulls out of race for seat on Fifa council”, March 8), because he is still a wanted man for the Safa corruption. M NELL, LORRAINE, PORT ELIZABETH

WAITING SINCE 2015 FOR LICENCE

CAN the traffic department please explain why it is taking so long for my grandson to receive his code 10 licence? He passed his driver’s test in 2015 and is still waiting. Every time he makes inquiries he is sent for fingerprints. This licence is urgently needed for his job. Athol Trollip, could you help to resolve this issue? I can be contacted at (041) 456-2983 or 084-250-0100. READER

WHY NO ACTION AGAINST TAXI DRIVERS?

WHY is nothing being done about the taxi drivers? They have no regard for their passengers, let alone other motorists. Most of them look as if they’re drunk or on drugs. Maybe it’s time to take them off the roads and bring the buses back. Just a thought! DENNY

HOSPITAL COMPLAINT

I TAKE my hat off to the student who exposed laziness (“Student filming ‘lazy’ nurses assaulted”, March 7). All hospitals and clinics under our health department are a mess. Athol Trollip, take a close look at those dirty places that are where people are supposed to be cured but are turned into death camps. AGNES, PORT ELIZABETH

“LAZY nurses” Facebook comments (March 9): Lezanne Combrinck, I fully agree with you. Nurses do need to take breaks to eat and sit down, but all at the same time? I have witnessed this en masse break. All they do is chat. JAN BOCEK
