1920: Airmen Sir Pierre van Ryneveld and Quintin Brand arrive in Cape Town after making the first flight from London. 1960: The first clash in the Pondoland Revolt takes place in the Bizana district. 1983: Umkhonto we Sizwe detonates a mortar bomb outside the SA Air Force headquarters in Church Street, Pretoria, killing 19 people and injuring more than 100. 1982: The Conservative Party is founded in Pretoria by Dr Andries Treurnicht, pictured, and the National Party rebels, the Nasionale Konserwatiewe Party and the Aksie Eie Toekoms.
