Man banned from Spur after threatening to ‘klap’ swearing woman
A VIDEO of an altercation in a Johannesburg Spur, in which f-bombs flew freely and a man threatened to “klap” a woman has seen the family food chain ban the male patron from all branches nationwide.
After posting a video of the incident on Facebook, Lebohang Mabuya described the muscular man in it as intimidating and disrespectful.
“I think that he was throwing his weight around because he saw two young African women who were sitting with a bunch of kids,” Mabuya said.
In the video, Mabuya and the unidentified man can be seen screaming at one another at a table surrounded by children during a birthday party at the Texamo Spur at The Glen Shopping Centre.
The altercation took place late on Sunday afternoon.
Mabuya said she had gone to the Spur to celebrate her three-year-old goddaughter’s birthday.
When one of the children she was with and another child got into a fight in the play area, the child’s father confronted Mabuya.
“The father came to my table fuming. He was holding his daughter, asking ‘do you see what your child did?’ He was saying that my goddaughter was banging his child against the wall.
“He grabbed my goddaughter by her arm, sending the chicken she was eating flying through the air.
“He told his daughter to hit my child. He started swearing at me. He kept on threatening me.”
However, Marilize Lloyd, who accompanied the man and his family on his birthday outing, tells a different story, saying Mabuya fired the first salvo.
“Her direct comment was, ‘you can go f yourself,’” Lloyd said.
The video shows the man threaten to slap Mabuya and make a gesture towards her face before walking away.
“We were telling him to come away [from the lady], but after he walked away she still went on yelling and screaming,” Lloyd said.
“I think he just got to a point where he was so frustrated because he was trying to explain to her what her child had done.”
The man returned to Mabuya’s table and angrily lifted it, amid shocked looks from the children seated there.
Mabuya acknowledges that she should not have used foul language and says she feels ashamed.
She is also concerned that Spur staff did not intervene soon enough.
Spur said their staff were pushed away while trying to intervene and have launched an investigation.
