Let’s see some action

-

YOUR article in Monday’s The Herald regarding illegal businesses in Richmond Hill refers (“Businesses jump gun on rezoning”).

First, a thank you to you, Mr Editor, for publishing the recent spate of letters complaining about the total lack of town planning in the area.

The publishing of these, I am sure, led to the SRA directors at last to do something about the problem.

Regrettably though, our DA ward councillor is still, “working hard” (“Working hard to clean up Ward 5”, March 1) – yes, perhaps at sleeping.

A quick study of the area would show that there are many more residential properties being illegally used for business. Hopefully now the relevant municipal departments will take some action. Perhaps hefty fines can be levied. If so, do please ensure that the money does reach the coffers of the municipality.

An even better solution would be to close the businesses.

One owner, Matt Repton, is quoted as saying he had tried for two years to get his coffee shop premises correctly registered.

Mr Repton, it has been a lot more than two years that the coffee shop has been in operation. Why did you wait so long? Bottom line is though, I and, I feel sure, many other residents are happy that the situation has at last been taken note of. Now let us see some action please.
