Madibaz look certain to take title

- Mogan Segadavan segadavanm@timesmedia.co.za

NMMU Madibaz are just seven points away from lifting the Safa-NMB SAB League trophy following their resounding 4-1 win over Motherwell Academy at the NU2 Stadium on Sunday.

With six matches remaining, the students are on 53 points.

Nearest challengers Golden Aces can reach a maximum of 60 points if they win their remaining matches.

The only other teams with a mathematical chance of spoiling the Madibaz party are Fairview Rovers and PE Sundowns.

Both teams will reach 59 points with maximum points.

On Saturday, only a superb performance in the second half saw Madibaz secure maximum points.

Despite Farouk Abrahams giving them an early lead, the students were made to look ordinary by Motherwell.

However, after the break Motherwell appeared to run out of steam, letting Claudius Sagandira, Simamkele Thobi and Sachin Rautenbach complete what, in the end, turned out to be an easy victory.

Tailenders Young Cosmos ended whatever chance Mabayibone Strikers had of challenging for the title when they held the early log leaders to a 2-2 draw.

Highland Spurs retained their top eight berth with a 1-0 win over Showvillage United Brothers.

The defeat plunged Brothers deeper into the relegation zone.
