‘Joe’s death not good or nice’

-

MOURNERS at Joe Mafela’s memorial service shed a tear when his friend and poet Don Mattera turned the actor’s popular Chicken Licken TV advertising phrase into a heartfelt poem yesterday.

Mattera used the catchy phrase, “It’s good good good‚ it’s good as nice”, to pen an emotional tribute to his friend.

The poet told the mourners it was not “good as nice that Joe was gone”.

He described the life and times of the actor in the poem‚ talking about how it was good and nice when Mafela was born and how it was not good or nice now that he was gone.

It was an emotionally-charged day as hundreds of friends‚ family members and industry colleagues gathered at the Joburg Theatre to pay tribute to Mafela.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday for the actor, who died in a car accident on Saturday night. – TshisaLive
