Angolan deluge leaves 11 dead
FLOODS in Angola have killed at least 11 people and left thousands homeless, after the country was hit by torrential rain.
More than 700 homes had been destroyed following the deluge which began on Tuesday afternoon and lasted into the early hours yesterday, rescue service spokesman Faustino Mingues said.
“The victims died when houses collapsed, or after being swept away by the water,” he said.
Others were killed after being electrocuted by high-voltage power lines downed by the extreme weather.
The deluge has paralysed the Angolan capital Luanda, affecting the electricity supply and causing traffic chaos on the city’s roads.
