Tensions run high in table tennis contests

THE Nelson Mandela Bay Table Tennis Union had its third week of games for the year on Wednesday.

Tensions ran high, with many matches going down to the wire.

In the Premier League, Aryan A eased over Callies 10-1, in a catch-up game with Dipal Bhana (Aryan A) and Neil Hendricks (Aryan A) doing well to win all of their matches.

Callies A showed their skill to defeat Livvie Alumni 10-1 and Selvin Sammy (Callies A) and Simon Meyer (Callies A) kept their flag flying high.

Aryan B defeated Madibaz A 8-3 with the game having some tight matches. Ridaa Hendricks (Aryan B) showed good form to go unbeaten.

Despite Dean Bailey, of Aryan C, shading Micheal de Kock 11-2 11-8, the A team with Neil Hendricks, Dipal Bhana and Thiagasen Pather went on to win 10-1.

The first league produced some top-class table tennis, thanks to Malcolm Blommetjie (Livvie Alumni B) and Mikes Vaghmaria (Aryan D).

Their scores were 7-11 11-9 18-16, with Vaghmaria edging Blommetjie.

With the match tied, Prahlad Palmer (Aryan D) did well to seize the victory for Aryans 6-5 over Livvie.

Rockets B easily defeated Madibaz B 8-3, Dion Muller (Rockets B) and Jesse Good (Rockets B) winning all of their games.

Callies B narrowly defeated Madibaz C, 6-5.

John Julius (Callies B) made all the difference, winning all of his matches.

Rockets A eased over Despatch 9-2, with Wynand Van Eyk, from Rockets, winning all of his games.

In the second league, Aryan E easily defeated Madibaz D, 10-1, with Davide Leoncini and Caine Frieslaar (both Aryan E) showing fine form.

Despatch B defeated Rockets C, 6-5, with Timothy Rossouw (Despatch B) winning all of his matches.
