Exciting race as babies take to the track

- Punters’ Pal

IT IS time to find out which is the best baby racehorse in the Eastern Cape.

The R150 000 East Cape Nursery, a race over 1 200m for two year olds, will decide that at Fairview in Port Elizabeth today.

Some of the 10 runners have already shown a lot of promise and there is always a chance with two year olds that some will show sudden improvement to upset the apple cart.

That all makes for a fascinating race and maybe we will see a future star winning this one.

Recently in the big races at Fairview we saw some tremendous performances by the likes of Normanz, Precious Pansy and Gimme The Stars.

The nursery winner should follow up on this with a sparkling run.

Some fine sorts like In A Rush and Captain Swarowski count among the past Nursery winners.

Two colts that cannot be left out of any bets in this race are Seattle Flame and Sacred Oration.

Both are owned in partnership by Greg Bortz and Braam van Huyssteen (who caused quite a stir by arriving by helicopter on his last visit to Fairview).

The two owners love to take a decent bet and it will not be easy for them to nail this one on the head.

Greg Cheyne will ride Seattle Flame and Luyolo Mxothwa will partner Sacred Oration. Needless to say, these two riders will be under immense pressure to produce the goods.

There is a bit of a bonus for racing fans as the winner of the Fillies Nursery, Precious Pansy, will also be in action.

She will contest the first race on the card, a Juvenile Pate for fillies over 1 200m.

After her impressive victory in the Fillies Nursery, many racing fans will be looking forward to another fine performance from Pansy.

No doubt that Precious Pansy will be a banker for almost everyone in the first leg of the Bipot and hopefully she can follow up on her fine win of last month.

Angkor Wat should be a banker in race 3, a Maiden Plate over 2 000m which starts off that elusive Pick Six.
