40 teams to do battle in Easter tournament

FORTY teams from across the metro will battle it out for the R18 000 winners’ purse in the Mofa Build It & Big Daddy’s Heineken Easter tournament which kicks off on Thursday at the three venues in Motherwell.

The teams have been divided into eight groups and will play a round robin.

The real tournament will start on Sunday when the top two teams from each group will enter the knockout stage.

The runners-up will receive R13 000 while the losing semifinali­sts will pocket R5 000 each. The teams reaching the quarterfin­als will receive R1 000 each.

There will also be individual awards for best player, goalkeeper, manager, coach and referee. The most discipline­d club will also receive an award.

The semifinals and finals will be played at the NU2 Stadium on Easter Monday. The groups are: Group A: Subs, Real Strikers, Airport Valley, Nubs, City Shakers.

Group B: Golden Aces, Eleven Brothers, Happy Stars, FC Angels, City Rangers.

Group C: Motherwell Real Stars, Young Madrid, Young Ideas B, Milan Stars, Liverpool (Motherwell).

Group D: Motherwell Academy, PE Sundowns, Manchester FC, Showvillag­e.

Group E: Crystal Palace, Young Ideas A, Motherwell United, United FC, Valencia.

Group F: Highland Spurs, Ikamva Movers, United Brothers, Morning Stars, Real Crusaders.

Group G: Manchester United, Real City, Lion City, Tomorrow Stars, Leeds United.

Group H: Liverpool (Kwazakhele), Bush Bucks, Red City, Sophakama, Shining Stars.
