Multiparty march mired in controversy

- Nomahlubi Jordaan

THE UDM claims it was not consulted about the multiparty march led by the DA in Limpopo yesterday.

“Other parties did not know about the march. I only heard about it from the media,” UDM leader Bantu Holomisa said yesterday.

“But individual parties are welcome to do their own thing.”

The EFF cited logistical issues as the reason for its non attendance.

“There is nothing sinister about the EFF not attending the march. People should not read much into this‚” the party’s spokesman in Limpopo, Jossey Buthane‚ said.

“It’s an issue of logistics. Nobody should be whipped for that.”

On Monday‚ the DA said it would hold a multiparty march with the EFF‚ UDM and COPE.

The DA has denied claims that it did not consult other parties.

“The DA consulted all political parties represented in the provincial legislature about the Polokwane march against state capture,” the DA’s spokesman in Limpopo‚ Solly Malatsi, said.

“We are determined to continue our fight against the crippling effects of state capture on service delivery across all spheres of government.

“The DA will not be distracted by nitpicking in our mission to ensure that President Zuma and all the beneficiaries of state capture fall.”

During the march, DA leader Mmusi Maimane made an appeal to “the good people within the ANC” to join other opposition parties in their call for Zuma’s removal.

Maimane said South Africa had bad people who were violating the country’s constitution, but there were also good people‚ including those within the ANC‚ who were fighting corruption.

He also slammed Zuma for his racial comments on recent marches‚ which took place in cities across the country.
