Greef ready for raiders

- Racing Editor

COME and catch me if you can.

This is seems to be the message trainer Alan Greeff is sending to four dangerous Western Cape challengers in the Listed East Cape Oaks over 2000 mat Fairview tomorrow.

Greeff saddles classy Beataboutthebush, who is a four-time winner from five starts. Her only defeat came in her penultimate outing when she was beaten by 0,25 lengths by Agterskot. On that occasion over 1400m she was pulling, although she did run on well.

Tomorrow Beataboutthebush tries the 2 000m trip for the first time and therefore it will be interesting to see if she can go that far.

Beataboutthebush, who is owned by Mr & Mrs AC Greeff, and Messrs CG LF Scribante, will have Greg Cheyne up for the fourth time.

Glen Kotzen-trained Angel Of Athens should also give a good account of herself. Richard Fourie will ride the daughter of Gitano Hernando for the Chrigor Stud. Although she is only a one time winner from six starts, she came close in her last race when a one-length fourth behind Hammie’s Game over 1800 mat Kenilworth. She then ran on from the rear and therefore the extra 200m should be perfect.

Brett Crawford-trained Baroness Mary also comes to Port Elizabeth with excellent form. A two-time winner from seven outings, the runner owned by the Drakenstein Stud has the ability to win. She is a better horse than her last race when she finished sixth.

White Rose and Konkola must also rate with chances. White Rose, another Glen Kotzen runner, ran below her best last time when finishing 6,20 lengths behind Gyre at Kenilworth but was just was only beat 0,50 lengths by highly rated Philae a run earlier. Craig Zackey takes over the ride from MJ Byleveld.

The Justin Snaithtrained Konkola will have Bernard Fayd’Herbe up. The daughter of Silvano is also a classy sort with some proven ability.

Chit Chat, Rainbow Skink and Gimme Now are all capable of causing an upset but in the final analysis Beataboutthebush is selected to beat Angel Of Athens, Baroness Mary, White Rose, Konkola and Chit Chat.

Several horses will make be having the first runs at Fairview. They are Blue Light Convoy (Jacques Strydom, ex-Gary Alexander) and Bombshell Girl (Gavin Smith, ex-Duncan Howells) in Race 2, Big Chief (Alan Greeff, ex-Brett Crawford) and Phoenix Rising (Greeff, ex-Ronnie Sheehan) in Race 3, Brown Sugar (Duncan Mckenzie, ex-Gavin van Zyl) in Race 4, and Tender Trip (Glen Kotzen), Disrupt (Tara Laing, ex-Charles Laird), Bank The Bill (Yvette Bemner, ex-Lucky Houdalakis), Black Opium (Grant Paddock, ex-Stanley Ferreira) and More than that (Gavin Smith, ex-Darryl Hodgson) in Race 5.

Other “new faces” include Strathdon (Snaith) and Private Swarovski (Tara Laing, ex-Geoff Woodruff) in Race 6, Captain Alfredo (Snaith, ex-Dean Kannemeyer), King of the world (Corné Spies) and Fresh (Spies) in Race 8, and Rule The World (Glen Kotzen) in Race 9.

The first race is off at 1210 with a Maiden Plate for all maidens over 1 400m.
