Grey players boost Profiles

CRUSADERS A and Profiles opened the Eastern Province squash league season with a cracking encounter at Saders on Tuesday, with the visitors ultimately edging their way to a 10-8 victory.

With three Grey High schoolboys in their side, Profiles are one of the youngest teams in the league but they served notice of their competitiveness by beating the solid Saders outfit.

Paul Mason emerged on top in a titanic battle with leading EP junior Murray Schepers in five games, while Saders No 2 Dane Bigara also needed five games to subdue Rian Raubenheimer.

However, the Venter brothers, Jandre and Dean, pulled it back for Profiles with their victories giving them the edge.

Old Grey A are also involved in a keen battle with their B team, trailing 6-3 with one match still to be played. Using all his experience, Jacques Wessels kept the A team in the tie with a 3-0 win over the promising Gerard Mitchell.

Tyler Whitby won for Londt Park B but that was the only success in their club derby against the A team, who claimed a convincing 11-5 result.

In the women’s league, the fancied teams – NMMU A, Saders A and Londt Park A – all took maximum points as they swamped their opposition.
