Madibaz in well-deserved Safa-NMB League win

A GOAL in the dying minutes of the match gave NMMU Madibaz a deserved 2-1 win over PE Sundowns in a SafaNMB SAB League fixture on Saturday.

The students, who have already clinched the championsh­ips, dominated the first half but only managed to go into the second leading by a goal from Cloudius Sagandira.

After the break, Sundowns, who are chasing the runnersup berth, came back strongly but Madibaz keeper Xolani Myataza kept them at bay.

He was eventually beaten to make the score 1-1.

With the match heading for a draw, Leroy van Rensburg nodded home a great cross by Sagandira three minutes from the final whistle to rob Sundowns of a share of the points.

Golden Aces, who are locked in a battle for second spot with Sundowns, suffered a setback when they lost 3-0 to Camper United. They remain a point behind Sundowns.

United are now in with a chance of finishing second, leapfroggi­ng from sixth to joint second.

Despatch Pioneers improved their chances of avoiding relegation with a 2-0 win over Central Acemates.

Royal Bucks, safe from relegation, failed to turn up for their match against Island City.

THE new Wafa season got off to a disappoint­ing start on Saturday, with most of the teams forfeiting their matches due to late registrati­on.

Defending champions Mabayibone Strikers had their match against Airport Valley United postponed.

Golden Heroes, who finished third, got their season off on a high note by thrashing Walmer Stars 10-1.

In the only other match played, Manchester United and Gwala Stars drew 0-0.
