- – Devon Koen

A SENIOR traffic official was arrested yesterday in a sting operation by the police after he allegedly wanted a bribe for not issuing a traffic fine.

Police spokeswoman Captain Gerda Swart said the man, 51, who cannot be named until he appears in court, is from the Nelson Mandela Bay traffic department.

It is alleged he wanted R200 from a motorist in exchange for not writing out a traffic fine and returning the motorist’s driver’s licence.

The official is due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court soon on charges of bribery and corruption.
