High scores mark weekend’s soccer

-

FRIDAY Night Lights in the Pefa Score Premier League saw some high-scoring soccer games.

At Londt Park, Callies beat Hearts 6-4 in a real humdinger. Callies were 2-1 up at half time and then went on a spree, going 6-2 up in 15 minutes.

The scorers for Callies were Kurt Petersen (2), Dylan Schimper (2), Nevan Sias and Julian Cooper.

At south campus, Madibaz ran out 7-4 winners against a determined Leeds United.

The students had to come from a goal down midway through the first half to lead 2-1 at half time.

Madibaz started the second half like a house on fire and raced to a comfortable 6-1 lead within 20 minutes after the break.

With the game seemingly over, Leeds hit back to reduce the score to 6-3 with 10 minutes to go. The students put the game beyond Leeds FC with a seventh, but Leeds had the final say with their fourth.

At Old Grey Sports Club, PE Defence came from behind three times to earn a 3-3 draw with Mahle Old Grey.

In an entertaining game, Old Grey played some superb soccer, and deservedly led three times, having missed a penalty early in the game and then hitting the crossbar.

Ayanda Tshanga scored with a good finish midway through the first half, but PE Defence equalised just before the break.

Old Grey took the initiative from the restart and went 2-1 up thanks to a fine solo effort by Zithulele Mhlontlo.

PE Defence then scored the second equaliser with a free header from the edge of the six-yard box.

Nkosinathi Speelman then put Old Grey into the lead for a third time, following up on an excellent free kick from Luvuyo Bika after the keeper could not hold onto it.

The home team hit the woodwork on two more occasions before snatching a draw.

NMBM hosted Rising Stars and were hoping to secure three points, but Rising Stars walked away with a great 5-1 win.

Saturday saw the high scoring continue when Central Acemates took on Chippa at Fairview.

Chippa have been flying this season and overcame Acemates 3-2.

Blue Ribbon St George’s welcomed PE Home Rovers to Union Olympics, but suffered a 4-2 loss.
