Pearson side do well against visitors

-

THE first visit of Rhenish High School from Stellenbosch to the Pearson campus was a great success and provided some thrilling netball.

Results-wise, the spoils were shared, with the schools winning two games each.

The support of the parents and pupils in attendance was much appreciated and some very closely contested matches were played.

The U16A were defeated 14-13 by an “after final whistle” penalty shot and the U16B1 went down 13-12 to Rhenish U15As.

Pearson U14As were far too strong for Rhenish, emerging 26-4 victors.

The first team triumphed comfortably against a weakened Rhenish side because of Western Cape schools trials being held in Cape Town.

The final score was 28-3 in a reduced 2x15-minute match.

Once again, Pearson’s young team displayed their considerable skills, with all nine players producing polished performances against more-than-willing opponents.

A comfortable 15-1 halftime lead was followed by another fine second half-performance, increasing the final winning margin to 25 goals.

The Player of the Match accolade went to young Nina van Niekerk, with an equally young Chante Smith running her a close second.

This match is just the tonic the team needed to face the considerable challenges waiting in the weeks ahead.
