WHAT ABOUT THE FARMER’S LOSS?

MR Editor, according to you (Editorial comment, The Herald, May 8), shooting the 11 cattle will have a devastating financial implication for the black owners. Now let us take stock of the devastating financial implications for the farmer: 1. The cost of preparing the land to plant. 2. Planting the veggies. Fertiliser, irrigation, electricity, wages, harvesting. 3. Income lost by selling his crop eaten by the cattle. Now, who is actually the loser? BRAAM MAREE, UITENHAGE

IF the cattle owners expect compensation for their animals being shot while grazing on other people’s land, will they be prepared to pay for any damage done to vehicles that may unavoidably run into them on the roads? SANDY

MILLIONAIRE FOR A DAY

I WOULD just like to let Wendy Knowler know that I also had money put in my bank account many years ago, when NBS was still going. I knew that I had about R60 000 in my account for building work on my house. One morning when I drew money from the ATM and looked at the balance, it showed I had over R1-million in my account. My heart almost stopped. A teller in KZN had put the wrong amount in my account. When I went into the bank, the bank teller knew me and said, “Very nice, how did it feel to be a millionaire for a day?” I can laugh about it now, but, sjoe, it felt good. Of course, they took it all out of my account. (They said I could keep it if I could prove it was mine. Fine, but how would I explain that?) JOHNNY

USE THE R15M FOR PENSIONERS INSTEAD

To the DA, the R15-million you want to give to the Kings can be used for the pensioners’ rates and electricity. PENSIONER

R200 LETS TAXI OFF FOR OVERCROWDING

MY friend’s caregiver, who travels from Greenbushes to Humewood every day, says the taxi she was in had 35 occupants and was stopped by a metro traffic official for overcrowding, but the officer told the driver if he gave him R200 he could go – and that is exactly what happened. Off they went, payment gladly received. Eish! KAT
