Victory for Joubert, Schoeman
MARCO Joubert and Anriette Schoeman took the honours in the MYSPAR MTB Classic and Fun Farm run held around the Zuurbron Farm at the weekend.
The 60km challenge started in perfect weather conditions but it was not an easy race, with very few riders covering it in under three hours.
Midway through the race, Jason Meaton and Joubert got away from the other riders on the more technical part of the route.
Joubert took the King of the Mountain prime and managed to open a gap on Meaton to stay ahead and win in 2:19.26.
Much to the delight of the locals, Steven Venter finished third in a time of 2.31.09.
In the women’s race, Schoeman was leading the race as the riders passed the halfway mark and managed to open a gap on San Mari Woithe.
Schoeman also landed the Queen of the Mountain prime and won from Woithe in a time of 2:51.39.
With Pauline Tunstead hot on her tail, Woithe finished second in a time of 2:55.30 and Tunstead in 2:55.44
More than 550 participants took part in the event, which is held annually on the first Sunday of May.
