Five draws in league showdowns

FIVE of the seven matches played in the Nelson Mandela Bay Masters League on Sunday ended in draws.

High-riding Ama-units were held to a goalless draw by unfancied Sparks.

After thrashing Joe Slovo 4-0 last week, Eleven Attackers were almost brought down to earth by Slovo in the return fixture, and had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Mthunzi Mrwebi and Vincent Mgodleni scored for Attackers. Thanduxolo Ntshinga and Mziyanda Ntlali gave Slovo a share of the points.

A hat-trick by Koko Mlambo saw Soweto down Eberspache­r 3-1.

Mthethelel­i Klaas scored the consolatio­n goal for Eberspache­r.

In other action, Gqebera beat Winners 2-0, with goals by Mawethu Ntantiso and Wandisile Sikelwa.

After a string of poor results, Volkswagen picked up a point with a goalless draw against Young Pirates.

PEACE United showed no mercy on Sunday when they thrashed Young Aces 4-1 in a Wafa Premier League match played at the Walmer Community Field.

On Saturday, Aces were at the end of a 5-2 hiding at the hands of Morning Stars.

Stars failed to repeat that performanc­e when they drew 1-1 with Real Madrid.

Golden Heroes retained pole position courtesy of a walkover against Airport Valley City.

African Aces, who were tied with Heroes going into the weekend, lost 1-0 to the log leaders in a thrilling clash on Saturday, and claimed soft points with a walkover against tailenders Gwala Stars.
