The real threat to our democracy

- DR Galloway, Uitenhage

WHAT is the real threat to our democracy, that came with so much death, pain, suffering and sacrifice? Is it really President Jacob Zuma and the Guptas?

The real world, the world as it is, not as we may want it to be, is capitalism dominated by American imperialism.

Politicians in general are opportunists who will exploit any situation. The problems post-apartheid South Africa faces are structural as a result of economic and social engineering created by apartheid policies.

Because of the racist nature of imperialism, the highest form of capitalism, there was no Marshall Plan for post-apartheid South Africa like there was for post-World War 2 Nazi Germany.

In addition, South Africa is paying back apartheid debt to the IMF and World Bank. In this context, the ANC has done wonders.

Sure there are problems of corruption and a lot more needs to be done, but it is an undeniable fact that South Africa, after the removal of the neo-nazi Nationalist Party of FW de Klerk, is indeed a better place. A black child’s future is no longer determined by the colour of their skin.

We have forgotten the essence of that victory for all South Africans, both black and white.

It is now overshadowed by white-controlled, DA-driven propaganda in alliance with South Africa’s rising black fascists.

As Adolf Hitler was driven by hatred of Jews, so Julius Malema and his EFF are obsessed with hatred for Zuma, whites and Indians. As Hitler exploited poverty, so does Malema. Someone who wears R250 000 watches can never be a champion of the poor.

South Africans should be calling for the fall of Malema and his EFF, not President Zuma.

In the context of available resources, the ANC remains the voice and champion of the marginalised and poor – in the world as it is, not as we want it to be.
