Rudi Smit in Bay to lead dance workshop

THE Natasha Tait Dance Studio in Port Elizabeth will be hosting a dance workshop with the renowned dancer and choreograp­her Rudi Smit at Andrew Rabie High School at the end of this month.

Smit is an internatio­nal jazz funk, hip-hop and waacking choreograp­her and dancer from Cape Town and specialise­s in stage and media.

He has choreograp­hed and/or assistant-choreograp­hed for the likes of Inna, Lloyd Cele, Loyiso Bala, Lakota Silva and more recently was one of the lead choreograp­hers for the Universal Pictures production of Honey 3: Dare to Dance.

He was also the assistant choreograp­her for the movie Bring It On 6 and has choreograp­hed internatio­nal commercial­s for Pepsi and Adidas.

“Rudi has taught workshops, performed in and judged competitio­ns in more than 20 countries across Europe, Africa, Asia, North America and Australasi­a,” dance school owner and workshop organiser Natasha Tait said.

The workshop will be held over two days, with advanced and intermedia­te participan­ts to be accommodat­ed on Friday May 26 from 6 to 7.30pm.

The slot for beginners and intermedia­te participan­ts is on Saturday May 27 from 10 to 11.30am and the next slot, from 1.30 to 3pm on the Saturday, will be open to all categories.

“I’ve opened the workshop to all dancers in and around the Bay as I want everyone who loves dance to have the opportunit­y to experience Rudi’s work,” Tai said.

The only restrictio­n was that participan­ts had to be 10 years and older, she said.

Ticket prices range from R170 to R400, depending on how many slots one signs up for.
