Pearson netball teams excel

-

PEARSON hosted East London’s Hudson Park as part of their reunion celebrations in a weekend across various sports.

It was a good day for Pearson netball as the teams won most of their matches.

The U18B team had a competitive match but one in which they deservedly emerged as 17-14 winners.

Anelise Olivier delivered a fine performance and deservedly won the player of the match accolade.

The U14A team was involved in another ding-dong affair in which Pearson gained a comfortable lead only to let their opponents back into contention through unforced errors. Pearson, however, managed to secure a 13-11 victory.

Ntando Kubashe was player of the match. The U16A team also had a tightly-contested match.

They produced a good second half which saw them through to a 20-14 victory.

Cara van der Vyver was named player of the match.

The match between the first teams resulted in a decisive 35-8 victory for Pearson.

Demi-Leigh de Jager, in her 50th game for the first team, was superb in the shooting goal circle and was judged player of the match.

In boys’ hockey, Pearson started off confidently and applied a large amount of pressure on Hudson.

That resulted in Pearson being awarded a penalty corner early on which was converted by Julian Dalton to take a 1-0 lead.

Hudson came back when they were awarded their only penalty corner of the match, scoring a soft goal to have the scores locked at 1-1 going into the half-time break.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw with Pearson left to rue a number of missed chances.

In girls’ hockey, Pearson 14A won 1-0, 14B won 4-0, 16A won 4-0, 16B won 4-0 and 2nd won 4-0.

In the first team game, Pearson won 5-1. The first goal was scored by Kyra Jurgens. Hudson came back, scoring a goal in the last minute before half time.

Pearson took control of the second half with Ongi Mali outstanding in the midfield.

Pearson’s defence and goalkeeper Nicole de Villiers kept Hudson Park’s strikers at bay.

Player of the match Mali distributed the ball well into the circle for the strikers to finish off. Lauren Johnson and Roxy van Wyk scored two goals each.
