Tough test for punters in the Fairview topliner

- Racing Editor

AN upset is on the cards in the main event on the Polytrack at Fairview tomorrow.

Race 6 over 1 400m looks tricky and that is likely to force punters to go wide in the exotics.

Three outsiders who look upset material are Southern Sunset, Coastal Spell and A Woman’s Will. Southern Sunset from the Tara Laing stable, will have Matthew Thackeray in the irons. He will ride the daughter of Greys Inn for the third successive time and will carry 3kg less than last time.

Southern Sunset’s last race on April 28 was a much improved effort. She finished just 2,55 lengths behind Strawberry Lips, compared to the 8,50 lengths behind Bombshell Girl in her penultimate start.

Further improvement could therefore make Southern Sunset difficult to beat.

Coastal Spell, who will be ridden by Teaque Gould for the Alan Greeff stable, carries 5.5kg less than in her last start and is also a much better competitor than her last race suggests. So look out for a huge run from this Toreador filly.

Yvette Bremner saddles A Woman’s Will and that stable should never be underestimated. The daughter of Var was not striding out in her last race and her 12th position must therefore be ignored. Before that she showed good form.

This will be A Woman’s Will fourth race in Port Elizabeth since relocating from the Michael Azzie yard. She was narrowly beaten in her penultimate start and also carries 6kg less than last time.

Flash McQueen must also be a strong contender with Andrew Fortune up, while Valediction can also take home a prize.

Fly Peg Fly is yet to run out of the money in Port Elizabeth. She won her first local start easily by 2,25 lengths and ran third in her last start, finishing 2,75 lengths off the winner.

In the final analysis the vote goes to Southern Sunset to upstage the favourites with Coastal Spell, A Woman’s Will and Flash McQueen next best.

Mambo Tango (Fortune) seems a possible banker in the first Leg of the Pick 6, while Bonnie Vie and Lady Away could see Race 7 develop into a two-horse race.

The first race is off at 1205 which is a Maiden Juvenile Plate for two-year-old fillies over 1 200m.
