Women’s teams face tough weekend of double-headers

- Mogan Segadavan

ALL the teams in the Safa-NMB Women’s League face a tough doubleheader this weekend.

The B Stream will be in action on Sunday.

Highbury, who were toppled from the top of the A Stream log last week after their 1-1 draw with African Aces, could regain their position with maximum points against tailenders Tomorrow Stars and Hearts.

The goal against Aces was the first Highbury conceded after scoring 15 in their previous three matches.

Log-leaders Kubs play NMMU Madibaz and African Aces.

Neither will be easy opponents after their respective results last week.

The students scored their first win while Aces, who are third on the log, drew with Highbury.

Warriors could start climbing up the league table, with relatively easy matches against Vuku Wanderers and Shatterprufe.

In the B Stream, log-leaders Bodene should have an easy match against Dower United.

Park United could pick up three easy points against Walmer Ladies, who are without a point on the board.

Fixtures:

Tomorrow: A Stream – Warriors v Vuku Wanderers (Dower), NMMU Madibaz v Kubs (South Campus), Shatterprufe v African Chiefs (Finnis 2), Highbury v Tomorrow Stars (Bridgemead), Hearts v PE United (Lawson Brown). THE position at the top of the Wafa Premier League will be at stake this weekend as the two top teams clash at the Walmer Community field tomorrow.

Golden Heroes are three points ahead of Eleven Experience but have played one match more.

They are also separated by a goal difference of three.

Heroes and Experience are two of three unbeaten teams in the league.

In their last match, Heroes battled to a 1-1 draw with Morning Stars.

Peace United, who are the third unbeaten team, could see that record end when they play African Aces tomorrow.

Aces are third, three points ahead of United, but have played two more matches.

Both teams will be back in action on Sunday with Aces playing Walmer Stars and United taking on Airport Valley United.

Morning Stars play Airport Valley United and Airport Valley City.

After their showing against Heroes and Mabayibone Strikers last week, the smart money will be on Morning Stars collecting maximum points.

With a single point separating them midway on the log, the clash between Ghetto Stars and Real Madrid could turn out to be the match of the weekend.

On Sunday, Ghetto play Mabayibone while Madrid take on Walmer Stars.
