Redesigned CX-5 a hefty stride forward
MAZDA has launched a sleeker, sportier and safer new CX-5, with a host of new tech gadgets, which will be available from June.
The launch drive for the media started from OR Tambo Airport and headed to the Denel Gerotek test centre outside Pretoria, where we put the innovative and attractive CX-5 through its paces.
Fully redesigned, the crossover SUV raises the bar for the line-up’s combination of fuel efficiency, driving fun, award-winning looks and topclass safety.
The new CX-5 is a big step forward from the model it replaces and will be met with enthusiasm by those looking for a new vehicle.
World of Wheels was particularly impressed with the G-Vectoring Control system (GVC).
The GVC is the world’s first control system to vary engine torque in response to steering inputs to provide integrated control of lateral and longitudinal acceleration forces and optimise the vertical load on each wheel for smooth and efficient motion.
A handling aid that aims to make racecar-like cornering precision something that every driver can enjoy, it leads to more direct handling and swifter reactions from the car which are interpreted more readily and accurately by the driver.
We also liked the Smart City Brake Support system (SCBS) – a safety feature that helps prevent low-speed impacts. The system monitors the vehicle in front to assess the possibility of a collision at speeds of 4 to 80km/h.
The Mazda CX-5 is designed and built to the highest standard of performance and reliability, backed up by a three-year unlimited kilometre service plan. A three-year roadside assistance and a five-year corrosion warranty are also included.
