Saders B notch upset squash win over Londt Park

-

CRUSADERS B registered a notable win over Londt Park A in the EP women’s first squash league on Tuesday, handing their clubmates a handy cushion at the top of the log.

While the Saders A team overpowered NMMU B 12-2, the B team shaded their Londt Park opponents 8-6, with key wins by Alison Oshry and Danell Douglas.

In other matches, Janet Byrnes and Ange Fraser (Saders B) each won a game to make the difference in the final count-out.

The results mean Saders A have gone to the top of the log, six points ahead of Londt Park A.

Saders A have hardly faltered this season and have registered the maximum of 12 points in four of their five games to stand on an overall total of 58 out of a possible 60.

Profiles registered their first win of the season when they defeated NMMU A 9-4, with the students missing their No 2, Sarah O’Grady.

In the men’s leagues, Crusaders also went to the top of the log, but largely because leaders Londt Park A had a bye.

With No 1 Paul Mason coming back from a 2-1 deficit to beat Londt Park B’s Quintin Masters, Saders were too strong for their opponents, winning 12-2.

They have 48 points from five games, with Londt Park A close behind on 46 from four.

Third-placed NMMU A were well tested by Old Grey B before running out 9-7 winners. Keanu Langford and Murray Keeton won for Old Grey, but the varsity side picked up enough points to sneak the win.

Having also played four matches, they are placed on 43 points, just three behind arch-rivals Londt Park.
