Day of fun at Wembley doubles

-

THE organisers of the popular Wembley Men’s doubles tennis tournament are gearing up for another day full of action when they hold their annual event at the PE Lawn Tennis Club on June 10.

Although entries only close next Friday, tournament director Gavin Cullen said there had been a surge of interest.

“We do have space for further entries, but these are filling up fast, so we encourage anyone who is keen to play to get his entry in as soon as possible,” he said.

The Wembley tournament has become one of the most well-supported events on the Eastern Province calendar, catering for players of all levels.

The club has attracted strong support from sponsors and Cullen said there would be attractive prizes on offer.

“This is a not only a fundraiser for our club as we strive to improve our facilities, but it is also a chance for the tennis community to enjoy a day of top quality tennis and camaraderie,” he said.

The tournament will again cater for a number of sections, with round-robin matches being played in the first phase.

“Depending on the number of entries, we will organise playoffs and a final to decide the section winners,” Cullen said.

Besides the tennis action, players and supporters will be well catered for off the court, with entertainment on hand, as well as food and refreshments being available.

The entry fee is R100 a player and names can be given to Cullen at gcullen@polka.co.za or 079-528-4444.
