Mofa sides clash after stiff playoffs

- Mogan Segadavan

ALL the senior Mofa teams are back in action this weekend – starting this evening – after a break for the Mofa Engen U18 playoffs.

The playoffs were won by Young Ideas, who beat Manchester FC 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Ideas will represent Mofa in the regional competition at the Gelvan Fields, in Stanford Road, Port Elizabeth, on a date still to be announced.

In tonight’s early match, Manchester FC take on Young Madrid.

Madrid went into the weekend break last week with a one-point lead at the top of the log, after they thrashed tailenders Milan Stars 4-0. Manchester went down 2-0 to Young Ideas. The late game is Valencia against Young Romans. Ideas – who leapfrogged three teams to finish the weekend in third place, after beating Manchester and Crystal Palace – should have it easy against Wells United tomorrow.

Highland Spurs, who blew an opportunity of becoming the log leaders when they were held to a goalless draw by Manchester, could be in trouble again when they play City Rangers, who thrashed Subs 3-0 in the last match.

Spurs and Ideas will be back in action again on Sunday, in what could be the match of the weekend.

In the First Division, the pick of the weekend should be the clash between log-leaders Real Strikers and Amathole.

Last week, Strikers beat NU29 2-0 to retain their top position on the log.

Amathole thrashed Arsenal 3-0, to move within two points of Strikers.

Eleven Brothers, handily paced behind Strikers and Amathole, can put pressure on the front-runners with maximum points against NU29.
