Young Madrid hang on to lead by single point

- Mogan Segadavan segadavanm@timesmedia.co.za

YOUNG Madrid’s lead in the Mofa Premier League was cut down to just one point after they crashed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Royal Bucks on Sunday.

The previous day, the logleaders battled to a 1-0 win over Manchester FC.

Highland Spurs, who are a point behind Madrid with a match in hand, scored an easy 2-0 win over Young Ideas.

On Saturday, Bucks beat tail-enders Milan Stars 2-1 and are now just two points behind the log-leaders.

Manchester United blew their chances of closing in on the frontrunners when they drew 1-1 with Real Aces, who are just two places away from the bottom of the log.

In the First Division, only two points separate the top four teams.

Motherwell Real Stars, who head the log on goal difference, beat Young Tigers 3-0 but were held to a surprise 1-1 draw by Scorpions.

Happy Stars tied with Real Stars after picking up maximum points from their double header.

They beat Motherwell United 2-1 and Young Tigers 3-1.

Amathole, who are a point behind the joint log-leaders, beat Real City 2-1.

The defeat was costly for Real City as three points would have seen them top the log. HIGHBURY dropped their first points in the Safa-NMB Women’s League by default on Sunday when the match against Warriors was called off by the referee because their field was not clearly marked.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for the log-leaders after they had thrashed Kubs 8-0 the previous day.

Highbury’s loss was African Chiefs’ gain as they drew level on points after beating Vuku Wanderers 2-0 and PE United 4-2 in their double header.

On Friday evening, Warriors came back from a goal down to beat Hearts 3-2.

Despite dominating possession, Warriors found themselves trailing after a defensive blunder.

Minutes after conceding the goal, Warriors bounced back with a splendid free kick from Loriaan Windvogel and the momentum shifted to Warriors again.

After the break, Alfreda Kommas and Roxanne Moolla made it 3-1.

With time running out Hearts pulled one back but it was too little too late.

Hearts suffered their second defeat when they went down 2-1 to NMMU Madibaz.

The students, who are on a roll, thrashed tail-enders Tomorrow Stars 5-0 on Saturday.

Stars are without a point this season.

In an eight-goal thriller, Kubs and Vuku Wanderers drew 4-4.
