Masters battle for league glory

- Mogan Segadavan segadavanm@timesmedia.co.za

WITH Ama-unit’s seven point lead, the battle for second position in the Nelson Mandela Bay Masters Football Association should intensify this weekend, with all teams playing a double header starting tomorrow.

Although the log leaders had to work hard for their 3-2 win over struggling Gqebera last week, they will expect to win their matches against PE Eleven tomorrow and Young Pirates on Sunday.

However, the match against Pirates may not be that easy after their resounding 4-0 win over Zwide Masters.

Volkswagen, second on the log, play Winners and Eberspacher.

Neither will be easy – Winners are seventh while Eberspacher thrashed New Brighton 5-1 last week.

Eleven Attackers, who trail Volkswagen by one point, will expect to win both their matches comfortably.

They play Soweto and Gqebera, both in the second half of the log.

PE All Stars, the only other team in with a chance of challenging for the league title, play Gqebera and Winners.

Winners are just outside the chasing pack.
