Musa in the city to promote new single
FORMER Idols SA winner Musa was in Port Elizabeth yesterday promoting his latest single, Nomkitha, which comes off his tripleplatinum-selling album Mr Serious.
The season nine winner released his second album in April and received two nominations at this year’s South African Music Awards for Best Male Artist and even went up against friend, producer and business partner Robbie Malinga in the Best Afro-Pop Album category.
“There was no rivalry when we were against each other because we were going to celebrate whoever won the award that night,” Musa said.
The afro-pop musician said Nomkitha was a love song of a man expressing how he felt.
He co-wrote it with Ntsika Ngxanga from the award-winning acapella group The Soil.
“He’s trying to express himself in every way possible and is begging her to hear him out,” Musa said.
Nomkitha tapped into country music and afropop, which was how the song had come up, he said.
The singer described his album as a “rainbow of music, basically all 10 shades of soul and afro-soul and no song sounds like the other”.
Musa said that before auditioning for Idols SA, he had been involved in the music industry since 2006.
“Everyone was against it and Sfiso from The Muffinz told me if I did this, enter Idols, I had better win it and they gave me a hard time but supported me once I got on the show, but I admit that there was some pressure,” he said.
Winning Idols SA had been a life-changing experience.
“Like anything in life, there were bitter-sweet moments after winning.
“I learnt to be patient, consistent and hardworking,” he said.
