EFF growing in East Cape –Shivambu

- Zwanga Mukhuthu

THE membership base of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is growing at a rapid rate in the Eastern Cape, the party’s deputy president, Floyd Shivambu, said at the weekend.

Shivambu was speaking on the sidelines of his visit to EFF branches in the Buffalo City Metro (BCM).

The firebrand EFF leader was on a four-day visit to the province “to assess the strength and stability” of the branches.

On Friday, he visited EFF branches in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and Cacadu, and conducted a members’ assembly in Grahamstown.

On Saturday, he headed for BCM where he addressed jovial party members at Gonubie’s Mzamomhle township and also visited members in the Amathole region.

Yesterday, he hosted closed meetings with party members in the Alfred Nzo and OR Tambo districts.

Today, he will end his trip by visiting EFF branches in the Chris Hani and Joe Gqabi regions.

Speaking in Mzamomhle on Saturday, Shivambu said: “We came here to listen and take reports in terms of the branches that are ready for branch people’s assemblies, because we are preparing for the BCM regional people’s assembly here soon.

“Afterwards we are going to have a provincial conference to elect the new provincial leadership.”

He said his party was making progress and inroads in the province and so far had about 340 branches in the Eastern Cape in good standing.

“We have got 78 EFF councillors in this province, so it is a very important province in the life of the EFF. It is the one that we are investing in to give us huge numbers in 2019 moving forward.”
